Dreamwork Pictures - Real Steel

There are only a handful of movies that I am excited about seeing. This is one of them. It kind of reminds me of a mixture the Iron Giant(one of all-time favs), The Champ and the Transformers. There is just something about it that has me very interested and excited for it's release, October 7th.

Check out the trailer here:

I am including the cast list and brief synopsis.

Genre:                          Action-Drama
Rating:                          PG-13

Cast:                             Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand
Director:                       Shawn Levy
Producers:                     Don Murphy, Susan Montford, Shawn Levy

short story “Steel” by:    Richard Matheson

A action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

“Real Steel” is directed by Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum” franchise and “Date Night”).

“Real Steel” is about a former boxer (Hugh Jackman) who, against all odds,  gets one last shot at a comeback when he teams up with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) to build and train the perfect contender for the new high-tech sport of robot boxing.

Thai Kitchen Party!

Yesterday, I had the most wonderful opportunity to host a Thai Kitchen Party through,Houseparty.com. They sent me a large box full of great stir-fry sauces, coconut milk, curry pastes, and too many sauces to mention. They also sent along Thai Kichen "chip clips" and coupons for my guests. All I had to do was invite some people over and use the products they sent along with whatever I wanted to add. Well, after having to postpone my party twice due to a family illness and scheduling problems, we finally had the party. The food turned out wonderfully! I made two kinds of stir-fry, chicken and beef skewers and some grilled chicken wings marinated with Sweet red chili sauce. My brother made some pad-thai, lettuce wraps and as usual he put his signature "Salik spin" on a dish that turned out to be the hit of the evening. He made a BBQ Thai chicken pizza! After one bite, I was trying to think of how I was gonna get a loan from the bank so I could open a restaurant and sell them. They were just that good! Everyone left happy and full of good food. But, then again I can't think of a time when we had a party that we didn't leave full of good food and happy. I was so grateful to be able to share the day with my Mother, 2 of my aunts, brother and my sister, Maya. I think it was the first time that I had both of my nieces and my nephew together with my boys. And, I am also thankful that I was chosen to host this Thai Kitchen party because now I have many more great recipes to add to my repertoire. Dinner just got less monotonous in the Dorsey household. If you are interesting in hosting your own party, check out www.houseparty.com. They always have a lot of cool parties to sign up for. Try it, you just might LOVE it!

The Bad and the Good

The past few weeks have been a bit rough. My dad is battling a very serious condition called Myelodysplastic Syndrome. He has been hospitalized for over 3 weeks and has had some very, very rough moments. I am going through the struggles of  being the parent of a soon to be 21 year old male that now feels we are too strict because we give him a curfew, a 7 year old that wants to eat only foods with syrup or cheese everyday, and I am sending my 2 youngest formerly homeschooled sons back to school in two weeks.  I find myself having more separation anxiety than they are and I am dealing with some issues of feeling really guilty about sending them back to school. On the flip side, I have had some awesomely great experiences lately too.I was featured in the Chicago Parent magazine, (August Edition) with my two little guys. I had the chance to work on the new TV series, POWERS that will premiere next year on FX(which I mentioned before). I am stepping waay out of my comfort zone and taking a 3 day intensive actor's workshop this weekend with the actress Tasha Smith (Jumping The Broom). The thought of taking this workshop terrifies me, but I need to do it. And, last but not least shooting that Gamefly commercial with my family, which was awesome!(also mentioned before) So despite the roller coaster ride of emotions I have been on lately, and the crazy amount of stress and pressure I feel right now, I am still taking things one day at a time. I have to or the chaos will consume me. And, I am so thankful to still be able to find those things that make me smile, laugh or just remind me that there is still a lot of beauty in the world. The struggles continue, but so does the fun and love.

Back to Reality

Okay, so I am back in Chicago now and I miss California already. We are still buzzing over our Gamefly experience. I think I have the "anyplace is better than here syndrome" working on me right now. The trip was such an amazing experience, that I didn't want it to end. But, isn't that just like any great thing? My hubby and I am now trying to make sure that we can take a trip every year. This opportunity made us really realize how much we enjoy traveling and just how important it is for us to introduce our children to as many different places as we can. So if any companies that sponsor trips to; The Bahamas, Australia, Disney, Universal Orlando, any cruise lines, etc.... need a family to try out your places and have me blog about it, feel free to contact me. The Dorsey family is ready for our next adventure!

Thankful and Grateful

I am writing you today from Los Angeles. It has been over 20 years since I have been here. I find myself back here by surprise. My family was chosen to shoot a commercial for Gamefly. If you aren't familiar with it, it is a service that rents video games, like Netflix with no movies. The shoot went really well. The entire crew was wonderful. They treated us like royalty. They thanked us over and over for doing the commercial. Thank US!?? We thank them for choosing us and flying us out and putting us up in a fabulous hotel. This is the first time our family has had the opportunity to take a vacation together. It has been a long time coming. We all feel so blessed to have this chance to shoot a commercial and visit L.A. My two youngest sons have decided that they are moving here. I expect their will be many tears in the morning when we board the plane back home. But we go back ready to plan our next trip. And who knows, maybe there are more commercials in our future.Whatever the case, this trip has been unforgettable. So, so glad my entire family was a part of it.
